After Bosnian Serb forces under Ratko Mladić overran the UN 'safe area' of Srebrenica, guarded by a small Dutch battalion, they separated Bosniak men and boys from the women and children and killed more than 8,000 of them over several days. International courts ruled it genocide. Victims identified by DNA are still buried at the Potočari memorial each 11 July.
