Use what we've gathered
We publish the facts behind this site so that others can build on them: researchers, teachers, travel writers, and the AI assistants people ask for tour ideas. Everything here is free.
Historic events
All 337 events in our atlas: name, dates, period, themes, place and country, a short summary we wrote ourselves, and links to the event's page and its place on this site.
LicenceCC BY 4.0. Copy, adapt and republish it, also commercially, as long as you credit us.
Guides
Every live listing: name, profile page, website, kind of business, country and town, our summary, the places, periods, themes, formats and languages they cover, accreditations, whether the guide has confirmed the listing, and when we last checked it. Contact details are left out on purpose.
LicenceFree to reuse. Credit us with a link to each guide's profile on History-Tours.com.
A map for AI assistants
A plain-text index of the site for AI assistants and the people who build them: every event, place, period, theme and guide, each with a link.
LicenceFree to read and follow.
How to credit us
For the events atlas, a line like this is enough, wherever you use it:
"Historic events atlas" by History-Tours.com (https://history-tours.com/open-data), licensed under CC BY 4.0.
For guides, link to their profile on History-Tours.com. The photos on our event and place pages are not part of the data; each has its own licence from Wikimedia Commons, credited on the page where it appears.
Straight to the guide
Every guide link in our data goes straight to the guide's own website, or to their official guide association or licence listing if they have no website. There are no booking platforms, affiliate codes or tracking in between, and we take no commission. If you reuse the data, we'd ask you to link to guides directly too.
When a guide hasn't confirmed their listing within six months, we stop showing their website, and the data leaves it out too. Listings change as guides confirm, correct or remove them, so fetch the files again rather than keeping old copies for long.
