Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg left a briefcase bomb in Hitler's East Prussian headquarters, then flew to Berlin to lead a coup from the army offices on Bendlerstraße. Hitler survived with minor injuries and the coup collapsed that night; Stauffenberg and three others were shot in the courtyard. Some 200 conspirators were later executed, many at Plötzensee prison.
