In Hitler's new Führerbau on Munich's Königsplatz, the leaders of Germany, Britain, France and Italy agreed that Czechoslovakia must hand the Sudetenland to Germany; Czechoslovakia itself was not invited. Chamberlain returned home claiming 'peace for our time', but Germany occupied the rest of the Czech lands in March 1939, and 'Munich' became shorthand for appeasement.
